Sundays were made for brunch! Kyle and I generally love to go out Sunday mornings for some good eats, and we have tried so many different spots. It’s definitely one of my favourite meals because it’s the best of both worlds: lunch, and breakfast. Most restaurants have different specialties that they offer, but I normally get eggs benedict every single time. I always tell myself that I will try something different but as soon as I sit down to eat, I zone in on the eggs benny section on the menu. Here is a list of 3 of my favourite brunch spots to go to in Ottawa.
Baker Street Café
This is hands down one of the best brunches that I have had in my life. It’s located right on the main strip in the heart of Westboro. On a Saturday or Sunday, prepare yourself to be waiting in line unless you get there early. Standing in a line might sound awful, but one of the employees normally comes out with little muffins, so it’s like you’re getting a pre-snack to your brunch, which is great. The thing that I love most about this place is that the food is always fresh. You always get a good-sized portion of fruit on your plate, and the home fries usually come with cooked onions and a variety of peppers. I normally order eggs benedict, and the one I have pictured above was the special of the day with portobello mushroom, bruchetta, and hollandaise sauce – yum. Another must have is the cinnamon rolls which are to die for; they are so soft and smothered with a delicious icing on top. If you are ever in Ottawa, you have to try this brunch café because it’s fantastic.
This pub has great food for lunch and dinner, but also amazing brunch. This is one of the regular places we visit for brunch. It’s a fairly big restaurant so you normally don’t have to wait too long to be seated. They normally have a daily special which changes every weekend, so it’s a nice change if you are feeling spontaneous. They have about 5-6 eggs benedict here, and they are all fantastic. My favourite benedict has to be the Eggs Parisienne, which comes with mushrooms and Brie cheese. Another favourite on their menu is the Lady Gaga breakfast sandwich. This sandwich is loaded with so many tasty things; it’s hard getting a full bite of it. It comes in a fresh bun stuffed with peameal bacon, cream cheese, regular bacon, lettuce, tomato, and lots of mayonnaise. This is a great spot to go with friends for a night out, or enjoy a great meal at a good price.
Union Local 613
This is a spot we just found within the last year and it did not disappoint. It’s located on Somerset in an older style house, so the atmosphere is really unique. Their toast is amazing, and I’m pretty sure it’s made in house. The last time we went there I ordered their regular breakfast consisting of eggs, home fries, toast, and bacon, and on the side I ordered a buttermilk biscuit. These biscuits come with jam and butter and are absolutely delicious. I love this spot because most of their sauces and condiments are made in house. Even their ketchup that comes with the home fries tastes different from any other ketchup I’ve had; it’s delicious. Their bacon is some of the best that I have ever had because it is so thick and flavourful. Needless to say this is another brunch spot that is a must try in my books, if not for a great breakfast, then even just for a plate for fries and their ketchup, you will not be disappointed.
